Lançado há pouco mais de dois anos, o SUV elétrico compacto Hyundai Kona Electric atingiu a marca de 100.000 unidades vendidas no mundo. Este patamar o torna o carro elétrico mais vendido da marca coreana e o posiciona entre os mais bem sucedidos do segmento. 

Foram exatamente 103.719 exemplares vendidos até 30 de junho. Mais de 75% das vendas ocorreram fora do seu mercado doméstico - a Coreia do Sul. As vendas em nível recorde foram impulsionadas, entre outras coisas, pela produção adicional na Europa.

Tudo indica que o Hyundai Kona elétrico deve superar os 60 mil emplacamentos neste ano, acima dos 50 mil em 2019. A meta para a Hyundai até 2025 é aumentar gradualmente as vendas de carros elétricos a bateria para 560.000 veículos por ano - sem contar os movidos a células de combustível de hidrogênio e híbridos plug-in.

Obviamente, o Kona Electric e a IONIQ Electric são apenas o inicio da eletrificação da marca, enquanto o próximo passo importante serão os carros da próxima geração, construídos na nova plataforma dedicada para elétricos. Serão modelos de ampla autonomia com capacidade de carregamento ultra-rápido.

De acordo com as últimas informações do Automotive News, o grupo sul-coreano se esforça para impulsionar os veículos com células de combustível de hidrogênio, com o objetivo de colocar 200.000 unidades em seu mercado doméstico até 2025 (comparado a mais de 1,1 milhão de elétricos a bateria) - no final de 2019, havia 91.000 elétricos e 5.000 a células de combustível.

SEOUL, July 16, 2020 – KONA Electric, Hyundai Motor Company’s globally loved full electric compact SUV, has surpassed the 100,000 global sales milestone. Cumulative sales of KONA Electric reached 103,719 units as of June 30—just over two years since its launch in March 2018. Sales outside of its home market Korea accounted for more than three quarters of the total.

KONA Electric has been widely lauded for its class-leading driving range, fast-charging capability, safety and convenience features.

In April 2020, the inaugural TopGear Electric Awards named the model the Best Small Family Car, based on its performance during a 24-hour, 1,600-km European road trip. The same year, U.S. News & World Report named it the Best Electric Vehicle. In 2019, WardsAuto included KONA Electric on its 10 best engines list. In 2018, Auto Express named it the Affordable Electric Car of the Year. The EV also played a role in the KONA nameplate winning Spanish newspaper ABC’s Best Car of the Year award. It also won the 2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year.
